Your book
Up to 20 characters. It goes on the cover, into the word search, onto the colouring and tracing pages and the back cover.
New puzzles gives a different word search grid, maze and colouring layout with the same settings: print one book per child, each different.
Private: the book is drawn inside your browser. The name you type is not uploaded or stored anywhere.
How to make a personalised Christmas activity book
- Type the child's name and pick the age. The book redraws as you type. Use the arrows or the little pages under the preview to look at every page before you print.
- Untick anything you do not want. A child who cannot hold a pencil steadily yet may not want the tracing page; an 11-year-old may skip the colouring page. Answers are added at the back for every puzzle you keep (word search, maze, dot-to-dot).
- Download. Download PDF gives one activity per A4 or US Letter page, the easiest to print. A5 booklet PDF puts two half-size pages on each side of a sheet, in the order that turns into a little book when you fold the stack in half. The cover PNG is the front page at 300 dpi, for a gift label or to send ahead.
Questions
Is the activity book free?
Yes: no sign-up, no watermark, no limit and no paid version. The book is drawn in your browser, so the name you type never reaches a server; the only thing this page counts is that a download happened, never what it said.
What is inside the book?
With every activity ticked the book has 11 full pages: a cover with “Olivia's Christmas Activity Book” (or your child's name) and a tree, present and snowman to colour; a word search with Christmas words and the child's own name hidden in the grid; a maze where a reindeer finds the present; the name in big bubble letters among Christmas drawings to colour; the name in dotted letters to trace on handwriting lines; a dot-to-dot; a framed page to draw their own Christmas, signed “by Olivia”; three answer pages; and a back cover saying who it was made for. The puzzles come from polyatic's own word search maker, maze generator, name colouring page and name tracing worksheet, so each one is as good as on its own page.
Which age should I pick?
3-5: a 6 x 6 word search with picture clues and words that only run across and down, a small 6 x 6 maze, a 10-dot star, and tracing letters 20 mm tall. Most children this age need a grown-up next to them for the word search and the dot-to-dot, and happily do the colouring and drawing pages on their own. 6-8: an 8 x 8 word search with picture clues (a longer name makes it bigger), a maze in the shape of a Christmas tree, a 30-dot tree and 15 mm tracing letters. 9-11: an 11 x 11 word search with 12 Christmas words plus the name, diagonal words, and “Merry Christmas” hidden in the leftover letters; a circular maze with 10 rings; a 50-dot gingerbread house; and 11 mm tracing letters. If a child is ahead or behind, pick the band that fits them rather than their birthday. In the 3-5 grid a name longer than 10 letters does not fit and is left out of the word search (the page tells you); it still goes on every other page.
How do I print the A5 booklet double-sided and fold it?
Open the booklet PDF and print it at 100% (“Actual size”), double-sided, with “flip on short edge” (some printers call it “short-edge binding” or “tablet”). Do not choose “Booklet” in the printer dialog: the pages are already in booklet order, and a second booklet setting would shuffle them again. The 11 pages are padded with one blank page to 12, because a folded booklet always has a multiple of 4 pages; 12 pages print on 3 sheets. Keep the sheets in the order they come out, fold the stack in half along the small dashed marks at the top and bottom of the middle, and staple twice along the fold from the outside (a long-arm stapler, or open a normal stapler flat over a piece of cardboard and bend the staple legs down by hand). If your printer cannot print double-sided, print the odd pages, put the stack back in the paper tray, and print the even pages; try one sheet first to see which way round it has to go.
Is the booklet print sharp enough?
The pages are placed in the PDF as pictures at 200 dpi (full pages) or 220 dpi (booklet), which keeps lines and letters crisp on a home printer and keeps the file to a few megabytes. Text is slightly less sharp than in the single-page PDFs of the word search and maze tools, which are pure vector; if you want a single puzzle as large and sharp as possible, make it on its own page and print that. A5 pages are half the size of A4, so the 9-11 word search letters print about 4 mm tall: fine for most children, but for a child who struggles with small print use full pages.
Can I make one for each child in the family?
Yes. Type the next name and download again; press New puzzles to give siblings different grids and mazes so they cannot copy each other's answers.
