Tier list maker

Type a list or add your own pictures, drag them into tiers, save the picture.

Unranked

Drag a tile into a tier, or tap a tile and then tap a tier. On a touch screen, hold a tile for a moment to lift it. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move the focused tile between tiers and along a row.

Pictures are never put in a link: a link carries the title, the tiers and the text items only, and the list is inside the link itself, not stored anywhere.

Saved on this device

Text in this browser's local storage, pictures in its IndexedDB, as you go.

How to make a tier list

  1. Type or paste your items into the box, one per line, and tap Add to tray. Or tap Add pictures and pick several photos at once.
  2. Drag each tile into a tier. On a phone, hold the tile for a moment until it lifts, then drag; near the top or bottom of the screen the page scrolls for you. Or tap a tile, then tap the tier.
  3. Tap a tier's letter (or its ··· button) to rename it, change its colour, move it up or down, add a tier below or remove it.
  4. Give the list a title and pick a tile size.
  5. Tap PNG 1x or PNG 2x to save the picture, or Share link to send a text list that others can open and re-rank.

What the picture looks like

The PNG is drawn fresh on a canvas, not a screenshot, so it has no buttons or page around it: the title on top, then one row per tier with its coloured label on the left and the tiles in a grid. The grid is as wide as the fullest tier, between 5 and 10 tiles; a tier with more tiles than that wraps onto a second line. At the medium tile size (80 px), six tiers with up to five tiles each and no title make a 536 × 522 px picture at 1x (a title adds 52 px) and 1072 × 1044 px at 2x, the one to post, because it stays sharp on high-density phone screens.

Each picture is cut to a square from its centre, which is right for most faces and objects. For a wide group photo or a tall poster, tap the tile and slide Crop to choose which square is shown; the tile, the saved list and the PNG all use it. Pictures are shrunk so their short side is at most 512 px before they are stored, which is plenty for a tile and keeps a list of 50 photos to a few megabytes on the device.

What it cannot do

  • No ready-made templates of games, shows or brands. Bring your own pictures (screenshots work) or type the names.
  • Pictures are not shared by link. A link holds only text, so a picture list reaches others as the PNG; the person you send a link to sees the tiers and text items, not the pictures.
  • No voting or ranking together with friends. That needs a server to collect the votes, and this page has none; send a link and let each person make their own copy.
  • A photo in a format this browser cannot open (HEIC, in many browsers) is skipped, and the page names the file it skipped.
  • Up to 400 items and 20 tiers, items up to 80 characters. A link longer than 2,000 characters (roughly 150 long items) may be cut by some chat apps; the page tells you the length.
  • The saved list lives in this browser on this device only. Private browsing, or clearing site data, removes it.

Privacy and what is stored

Nothing you add leaves your device. The page sends an anonymous page-view count and, when you add items, export or open a shared list, one of three fixed words (tier-make, tier-export, tier-share-open); never an item, a tier name or a file name. Text and tier settings are kept in this browser's local storage and pictures in its IndexedDB, so a reload loses nothing; Clear saved list and pictures removes both in one tap. A share link carries the list after the #, which browsers do not send to any server, and opening one saves nothing unless you tap Save this copy on this device. Shuffle the tray uses your browser's crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so every order is equally likely.

Questions

Is this tier list maker free, and do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account, sign-up or watermark. Everything happens in your browser: your list is saved on this device as you go, and your pictures are never uploaded anywhere.

Can I make a tier list with just text, no pictures?

Yes. Paste or type a list, one item per line, and tap Add to tray. Each line becomes a tile with the words on it, up to 80 characters. A list of 30 fast-food chains, songs or classmates' snack picks takes a few seconds, and a text-only list can be shared as a link.

How do I make a tier list template with my own images?

Tap Add pictures and choose several photos or screenshots at once. Each becomes a square tile cropped from the centre; tap a tile and move the Crop slider to show another part of a wide or tall picture. Rename the tiers and pick their colours, and save the empty board as a PNG if you want a blank template, or keep it here: it is saved on this device.

How do I download my tier list as an image?

Tap PNG 1x for a picture the size of the list at the chosen tile size, or PNG 2x for twice the pixels, which stays sharp on phones and in posts. The image holds the title, the tiers and the tiles only, no buttons. Copy image puts it on the clipboard where the browser allows it.

What do the S, A, B, C, D and F tiers mean?

S is the top tier, above A; the letters after it follow school grades, with F (fail) at the bottom and no E. You can rename any tier, for example to Never, God tier or Must try, add more tiers or remove some.

Can I make a tier list in a spreadsheet or slide deck instead?

You can, by colouring a column of cells for the tier labels and pasting images into the rows, but every move is a cut and paste. Here you drag or tap a tile into a tier, the rows grow as they fill, and the PNG is ready to paste into a document or slide.
