Change color of image

Swap one colour in a photo or logo for another. Shadows, highlights and soft edges stay; or make the colour transparent. Not AI, full size, and the image never leaves this device.

Choose an image or drop or paste (Ctrl/⌘+V) · PNG, JPG, WebP · opened on this device, never uploaded

Open a picture, then tap the colour you want to change.

Full size up to 24 MP. PNG and WebP keep transparency; JPG puts white behind it. The file holds no EXIF: no camera, date or location.

Privacy: nothing is uploaded. The colours are changed inside this browser. The page sends an anonymous page-view count and two fixed event names (open, download), never the image, its file name, its colours or its size.

How to change a colour in an image

    1. Open the image. Tap Choose an image, drop the file on the box, or copy a picture and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). A phone photo is turned upright first.
    2. Tap the colour you want to change on the picture, or type its hex code. The tap averages a 3 × 3 pixel spot, so JPEG noise does not throw it off.
    3. Pick the new colour with the colour picker, a hex code, or Pick the new colour from the picture and a tap. Tick Transparent to remove the colour instead.
    4. Tune the range. Tick Highlight what changes, raise Tolerance until the whole area is covered and lower it if other things join in. Use Connected only or Only where I paint when the same colour appears elsewhere.
    5. Compare and save. Drag the handle for before and after, add more swaps if needed, and download PNG, JPG or WebP at full size.

    What it cannot do

    • It is not AI. It changes colours, not objects: it does not know what a shirt or a car is. A colour that also appears in the background changes there too, unless you tick Connected only or paint a mask.
    • Very dark and near-white areas carry little colour. A black shoe or a white wall has almost no hue to shift, so changing it to a bright colour gives a dark or pale tint at best. Keep shading keeps the lightness; flat mode paints over it.
    • Textures with many colours (a patterned fabric, a sunset, hair) need a larger tolerance or several swaps, and a large tolerance starts catching neighbouring colours.
    • Strong colour casts and reflections of the old colour on nearby skin or objects are not changed unless they fall inside the range.
    • Photos over 24 megapixels are scaled down to 24 MP for the download (the page says so). Animated GIFs open as their first frame only.
    • Nothing is saved. Close the tab and the swaps and the paint are gone, so download the result first.

How "keep shading" works, with numbers

Each pixel is measured in OKLCH, a colour space whose lightness tracks what the eye sees. Say you tap a red at lightness 0.60 and choose a blue whose lightness is also 0.60. A pixel in a fold of the fabric at lightness 0.48 becomes blue at 0.48; a highlight at 0.73 becomes blue at 0.73. Hue and chroma (how colourful) are set to the blue's, and chroma is lowered only where a screen cannot show that blue at that lightness. Pick a darker blue (0.50) and every pixel moves 0.10 darker, so the folds stay folds.

Tolerance is the distance from the tapped colour, in OKLab units × 100 (about 1 is a just-visible step), with lightness counted at half weight so a colour's own shades are caught before a grey of similar brightness. Pixels within the tolerance change fully; over the next Softness units they change less and less.

Edges get their own treatment. A pixel on the rim of a red shape on grey is part red, part grey: (161, 111, 105) is half and half. Simple tools either recolour it fully (a hard halo) or leave it (a red fringe). This page finds the nearest pure red and the nearest grey, works out the share of red (here 0.50), recolours only that share and mixes the grey back in: the pixel becomes (106, 127, 167), half blue, half grey, with no red left.

    Questions

How do I change the color of an image online for free?

Open the image on this page, tap the colour you want to change, and choose the new colour with the picker or a hex code. The preview updates at once; raise Tolerance if parts of the colour are left, then download a PNG, JPG or WebP at the image's full size. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no credit counter, because the work happens in your browser.

How do I replace a color in an image with another color and keep the shading?

Use Keep shading (the default). Every pixel keeps how much lighter or darker it was than the colour you tapped, and only its hue and chroma become the new colour's. A red shirt with folds becomes a blue shirt with the same folds. Flat colour instead paints the exact new colour, which suits flat logos and icons.

How do I replace a color in an image with transparent?

Tap the colour, tick Transparent under New colour, and download as PNG or WebP, which keep transparency (JPG cannot, so a JPG gets white there). Edge pixels that were half that colour become half transparent, so the cut has no hard stair-steps. For a white background around a logo, Remove White Background adds border detection and halo removal.

How do I change the color of only one object, such as a shirt?

Tick Connected only, so the change spreads from the point you tapped through touching pixels of that colour and stops where the colour ends. If the same colour touches the background, tick Only where I paint and brush over the shirt; Erase takes paint back. Both work together.

Can I change two or more colors in one picture?

Yes. Add another swap; each has its own colours, tolerance, mode and on/off switch. Swaps run in list order, each on the result of the one before, so red to blue followed by blue to green turns the red green. Switch a swap off to see the picture without it.
